Un plasticien installe son atelier dans une dent creuse. Pour capter une lumière uniforme et constante, le bâtiment déploie des sheds orientés au nord. Ses vitrages descendent jusqu’au sol, épousant les constructions mitoyennes. Voûtée, fragmentée comme un diamant courbé par facettage, l’enveloppe assure sa propre descente des forces. Elle devient autoportante et ses triangulations contreventent l’édifice. Un geste syncrétique résout la structure, l’évacuation des eaux de pluie et les ouvertures. La lumière devient un matériau à part qui, comme l’artiste, captive de cette géométrie céleste, habite l’interstice.
A visual artist sets up his studio in a vacant lot. To capture uniform and constant light, the building unfolds sheds facing north. Its glazing extends down to the ground, aligning with the neighboring structures. Fragmented like a diamond curved by faceting, the vaulted envelope supports its own load while its triangulations brace the framework. A syncretic gesture resolves the structure, rainwater drainage, and openings. Light becomes a material in its own right. Like the artist, drawn to this celestial geometry, it inhabits the in-between spaces.
