Pour mieux embrasser la radicalité de Shanghaï, ce projet s’inscrit dans une fiction. Douze installations itinérantes réactivent un médium et des récits invisibilisés. Le cinéma, jadis pilier culturel de la ville, déjoue la censure en s’immisçant par l’eau, autre composante majeure de Shanghaï (litt. « sur la mer »). Chaque module emprunte une stratégie défensive par biomimétisme. L’embarcation principale reprend celle du poulpe. Protéenne, elle émet une brume la confondant au smog urbain. Si les problématiques visées semblent lointaines, ce projet tente aussi d’exposer les angles morts de nos propres institutions.
To fully embrace Shanghai’s radicality, this project unfolds within a fiction. Twelve traveling installations reactivate a medium and narratives that have been rendered invisible. Cinema, once a cultural pillar of the city, evades censorship by slipping in through the water, another defining element of Shanghai (literally “upon the sea”). Each module adopts a defensive strategy inspired by biomimicry. The main vessel mimics the octopus : Protean, it releases a mist that blends into the urban smog. Although the issues it addresses may seem distant, the project also seeks to expose the blind spots within our own institutions.
